Description/History
As part of the approved FY2018-2019 MPFDC Budget, $130,000 was allocated for the Mansfield Activities Center Gymnasium Improvements Project. The project includes the replacement of the current gym floor, as well as painting of the gym walls, removing the current bleachers and replacing them with portable bleachers, and cleaning the sound boards and air vents.
The current gym floor is a SportCourt tile that was installed in 2013 under full warranty for the second time and is now under a prorated warranty. Problems encountered with the SportCourt floor included cupping of the tiles and UV light damage to the polyurethane coating.
Staff researched options for replacing the floor with several models of rubber and wood flooring. After receiving specifications and quotes for four different options, staff toured area facilities with each of the floor types. After inspecting the facilities, staff visited with representatives from each facility about the playability, functionality and maintenance of the flooring.
Following this analysis, staff recommends replacement of the current tile floor with the Robbins Pulastic Pro 110 Comfort floor. It is a low-maintenance rubber floor that is ideal for multi-purpose use including basketball, volleyball, pickleball, general programs and events. Staff also considered a wood floor. Cost, installation time, facility modifications, on-going maintenance and limited-use associated with a wood floor were all factors that were considered. Improvements are scheduled to be completed in the month of February 2019.
