Description/History
The Parks and Recreation Chapter of the Code of Ordinances was created in 1976 and received minor modifications for specific purposes over the years. The last revision was completed in 2014.
In addition to these ordinances, the department has numerous administrative policies, procedures and park/facility rules in place. Staff would like to conduct a comprehensive review of the ordinances, policies and procedures and recommend changes to the City Council for adoption.
During the process, comparisons with other local cities will be taken into consideration in some cases. Staff will work with an appointed sub-committee of the MPFDC during the review process to help recommend changes and additions to the code of ordinances.
Justification
A routine review of ordinances is necessary to stay current with changes in facilities, activities, procedures and capabilities within the department.
