Description/History
Each year staff compiles a list of recommended improvements for the existing parks in the City's park system.
October - The MPFDC approved $250,000 for existing park improvements in the FY 2013-2014 budget. Attached is the partial proposed list for park improvements which includes replacing bleachers and soccer goals, renovating existing sports fields, completing the shade structure at Park Operations, finalizing the replacement of older scoreboards at McKnight Park, and finishing the parking lot renovations at Hardy Allmon with the installation of bollards and additional asphalt. A number of these projects are rolling over the completion of last year's existing park improvements list. As the year progresses staff will work together to look at the needs of the park system and come to the board with a finalized list for the entire $250,000 budget.
November - The completion of the shade structure at the Park Operations building is scheduled to begin this month and the replacement scoreboards for McKnight Park East should be installed and ready for operation but the end of the year. Staff will come back to the board with a completed list of all improvements for this fiscal year at the January meeting.
January, 2014 - The shade structure at the Park Operations has been completed to help shade the outdoor storage. The scoreboards for McKnight Park East have been installed and are ready for the spring season. The bleacher and soccer goal replacements have been ordered and should be assembled this spring. Parks staff has begun the renovations at Chandler Park by scraping the sod off and regarding the field. During the end of the month, staff will finish out the project by renovating the irrigation system and installing sod.
February - Bleachers and soccer goal replacements are being assembled and installed. All should be complete and functioning by the spring season. Chandler Park football field renovations are mostly complete. The irrigation system has been installed and the field is ready for sod, but staff is delaying installation until temperatures are warmer.
March - At the February 13th meeting the Board approved the finalized list for the entire $250,000 Existing Park Improvements budget. These remaining items included baseball field renovations at the Sports Complex, linear trail striping, additional namesake signage, and playground resurfacing.
Parks staff has assembled and installed all the replacement soccer goals and all but four sets of the new bleachers for the upcoming spring seasons. The remaining four will be completed as soon as possible. Chandler Park football field renovations are complete and it is ready to play for the spring baseball season. Parks staff has also begun improvements needed at the Sports Complex baseball field.
April - The Sports Complex baseball field renovations are complete, Chandler Park football field turf grass is growing in well. Tarrant County has supplied the interlocal agreement for additional asphalt at Hardy Allmon parking lot. Bollard installation is underway at Hardy Allmon parking lots and staff is continuing to move forward with the remaining items on the list.
May - The bollard installation is complete at Hardy Allmon parking lots and staff is working with Tarrant County to complete the paving process. Staff has begun evaluating playgrounds to best utilize the budgeted funds for playground improvements.
June - The Tarrant County inter-local agreement has been approved by all parties and Staff is coordinating the construction with Tarrant County staff. Construction is expected to begin and be completed this summer. Staff has selected James McKnight Park East as the playground to be replaced this fiscal year and is expecting replacement near the end of summer.
July - Tarrant County has completed paving the remaining portion of the Hardy Allmon parking lot. Staff is working with a contractor to install the remaining bollards to complete the project.
August - Staff has received prices for the installation of a new playground at McKnight Park. Once approved this project is scheduled to be complete before the end of the fiscal year.
