Description/History
The Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighter Grant Program 2014 has announced the availability of funding for local grant projects.  The application period has opened on November 4, 2014 and will close on December 5, 2014.  The City of Mansfield will submit an application request for grant funding totaling up to $450,000 for an Air / Light Utility Truck.  The City of Mansfield would be required to match 10% of the requested funds if awarded.  The contract period is 12 months after the award date.
Quotes are currently being processed to include within the application so the actual requested amounts may certainly fall under the maximum allowable funding, which in turn will lower the city's match requirement.
Justification
The grant application will allow the City of Mansfield to acquire funds to purchase a response apparatus that would allow for the refilling of air cylinders at fire scenes, provide additional light operations at night and allow for proper rehabilitation of firefighters performing fire suppression operations. Currently, these operations occur from vehicles operated by our Citizens Fire Alumni group.  With the addition of the Utility Truck, the Fire Department would replace our 1992 Utility Truck which has become more unreliable for refilling of air cylinders.  The air refilling system is becoming more difficult to acquire replacement parts due to its age.  With the newer technology, the process of filling cylinders would become safer and parts are available for any needed repairs .  Space would also be created to carry the needed supplies and equipment for rehab services of the firefighters. The Utility truck would also be available for response to other city departments should the need exist.
