Recommendation
Approval of Professional Services Contracts with Baird, Hampton & Brown, Inc. for design services, and Brittain & Crawford, LLC for surveying services, and approving funding in an amount not to exceed $952,944.00 for the Wilson Drive Extension (West Broad St. to Westhill Parks)

Description/History

The proposed project is an approximately 2,500-foot long, 29-foot wide roadway from West Broad St to the proposed Westhill Parks Subdivision. The project includes an approximately 500-foot bridge crossing Walnut Creek and a 12-foot wide concrete sidewalk along one side of the roadway and bridge.  This project will provide access to the Westhill Parks Subdivision and a connection to Newt Patterson Rd. that will increase connectivity across Walnut Creek west of downtown.  This street connection across Walnut Creek is on the city's Master Thoroughfare Plan.  The project will be included in the 2025 Roadway Capital Improvement Plan.  The estimated construction cost is $6,701,449.00.


The requested funds are for design services with Baird, Hampton & Brown, Inc. in the amount of $562,769.00 (including a 5% design fee contingency), surveying services with Brittain and Crawford, LLC in the amount of $86,350.00 (including a 10% survey fee contingency),  $253,825.00 for right-of-way and easement acquisition, and a $50,000 contingency for subsurface investigation and other miscellaneous services needed to prepare the project for public bidding and construction, for a total budget not to exceed $952,944.00.

Justification

This project is included in the City's Master Thoroughfare Plan and will provide connectivity across Walnut Creek west of downtown.


The Director of Engineering Services will be in attendance at the meeting to answer Council’s questions regarding the proposed funding and contracts.
