Description/History

In Texas, a vehicle is stolen every 5 minutes and a vehicle is burglarized every 2 1/2 minutes and City of Mansfield is no exception.  The Mansfield Police Department has been awarded a grant in the of $394,341 for FY16-17 to continue to operate a multi-agency task force that targets automobile thefts and burglaries.  The Mansfield Police Department will be the managing agency with participation from the  City of Burleson, City of Kennedale, Johnson County Sheriff's Office, and the Tarrant County Constable Precinct 7.  This grant will fund salaries and benefits, supplies/operating expenses, and travel for one year.  This grant requires a 20% cash match which will be shared with each participating agency.

Justification

FY16-17 will be the 5th year since the inception of the Tri-County Auto Theft & Burglary Prevention Task Force.  This task force is focused on automobile crimes within the participating agencies jurisdictions.  On February 24, 2016 the ABTPA Board voted not to issue a new request for grant applications for FY2017.  As a result of this action the ABTPA Board is extending the active grant awards that were issued for FY16.  For FY16-17 the City of Mansfield auto task force is eligible for a grant award in the amount of $394,341.

Funding Source

Reimbursement by the Automobile Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority.
