Description/History
Each year staff compiles a list of recommended improvements for the existing parks in the City’s park system.
January - The MPFDC approved $250,000 for Existing Park Improvements in the FY 2011-2012 budget. Attached is the proposed priority list for park improvements which includes installing bridges at Hardy Allmon, adding namesake signage at each of the existing parks, and completing the stone entry signs at the three newest parks. It would also include adding a shade structure over the Rose Park playground swings, replacing bleachers and soccer goals, installing security lighting at Woodland Estates Park, and renovations of existing sports fields and fencing.
February - Installation of the security lighting at Woodland Estates Park is complete. Renovations to baseball field #2 at the Sports Complex should be complete by the end of February. This renovation includes laser grading, new irrigation and sod, and a new pitchers mound.
March - Renovations to baseball field #2 at the Sports Complex are complete. Also information is being gathered to begin the design for the park namesake signage project. Staff is receiving quotes for the new shade structure to be installed over the swings at the Rose Park playground.
April -Staff is beginning to collect quotes for fencing replacements at Chandler Park.
May - Staff has selected a contractor to replace the temporary fencing at Chandler Park with permanent fencing. The contract will begin work this summer during the break between the baseball and football seasons. Staff is also looking to move forward with Chandler Park football field renovations during the summer off season.
June - Staff is currently communicating with the contractor and installation should begin soon on the fence surrounding the two football fields at Chandler Park. Baseball field #5 renovations at the Sports Complex are scheduled to begin in the next few weeks. Stone entry sign construction is scheduled to begin next week at McKnight East.
July - Installation of the new chain-link fence at Chandler Park is in progress. Fence poles have been installed and completion of the concrete mow strip and the chain-link work remain. Staff is awaiting a third quote for the park entry sign for Julian Feild Park. Renovations to baseball field #5 at the Sports Complex are underway. Staff has requested a list from the Mansfield Soccer Association of the bleachers and goals needing replacement this year.
August - The installation of the chain-link fence at Chandler Park is complete. Staff has hired a contractor and installation of the stone entry sign at Julian Feild Park should begin the week of August 13th. Renovations to baseball field #5 at the Sports Complex are complete. Staff is waiting on a list from the Mansfield Soccer Association of the bleachers and goals that need to be replaced this year.
September - The footing is poured for the stone entry sign at Julian Feild Park and the sign is scheduled to be installed by the end of the month. New bleachers have been ordered to replace older bleachers at the Sports Complex. Electrical improvements at Chandler Park have begun; this includes replacing the bollard lights with pole lights and relocating the controls for the tennis court lights.
October - The Julian Feild Park stone sign is complete. The electrical improvements at Chandler Park should be complete by the end of October.
November - All existing park improvements that were started in last fiscal year (FY 11-12) have been completed. Not all budgeted items were attempted, and the finalized list is included in your packet.
