Requested Action
City Council action approving the resolution canvassing the returns of the general and special elections is requested.
Recommendation
Staff recommends approval of the resolution.
Description/History
A general and special elections were held on May 6, 2023 for the purpose of electing a Council Member, Place 6; Council Member, Place 7; Council Member, Place 3; and submitting to the resident qualified electors of the City Propositions A and B. Unofficial results were provided after the polls closed; however, election results cannot be canvassed until provisional and overseas ballots are evaluated and counted. Final election results are expected to be received no later than the evening of Monday, May 15, 2023. The final tabulation will be presented at the Council meeting.
NOTE: Official results will be provided during the meeting on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 prior to this agenda item being discussed. The resolution will be updated to show the official tabulation as well.
Justification
Pursuant to Sections 67.002 and 67.003 of the Election Code, the City Council must canvass the election returns no later than May 17, 2023.
