Title
Follow up Discussion and Possible Action Regarding MISD Request to Open Gate Access at Asa E. Low, Jr. Intermediate School on Clover Hill Drive
Requested Action

Recommendation

Description/History
MISD sent a letter dated Sept 4th requesting that the gate be opened on Clover Hill Drive for parent drop off and pick up. The submitted and approved construction plans for the school indicated the driveway on Clover Hill would have a gate closing it to daily access and was noted as an emergency entrance/exit only.
Justification
Staff has sent a letter to MISD requesting more information on this issue before a determination can be made as to whether or not the opening of the drive will help traffic flow both on school grounds and on Cover Hill. A short summary of items requested are:
Study showing the anticipated volume at this drive.
The number of student from this area that attend the school.
The number of students that ride bikes or walk from this area.
A circulation plan for the school assuming the driveway is opened.
The City will be installing "No Parking, No Standing, No Stopping" signs along the northern edge of Clover Hill for the length of the school zone to help improve lines of sight along the roadway that are being compromised by the large volume of traffic that currently uses the street to stack while waiting for pickups and drop offs.
The Director of Public Works will be in attendance to help answer questions regarding this item.
