Description/History
The proposed ordinance seeks to amend Chapter 155 of the Mansfield Code of Ordinances, “Zoning”, to allow consumer electronics, radio, and television repair business as a permitted use in the C-2, Community Business District, C-3, Commercial Manufacturing District, I-1, Light Industrial District, I-2, Heavy Industrial District and PD, Planned Development Districts that allow such uses. Currently, these uses are classed as “Fix-It Shop or Household Appliance Service and Repair” on the Permitted Use Table, requiring a Specific Use Permit in the commercial districts.

The ordinance would amend Section 155.012, “Definitions”, to add a new definition for consumer electronics, radio and television repair to read as follows:

“CONSUMER ELECTRONICS, RADIO, AND TELEVISION REPAIR. An establishment that is primarily dedicated to the repair, the restoration, and the maintenance of consumer electronics, radios, and televisions. A consumer electronics, radio, and television repair establishment may also sell repaired or restored consumer electronics, radio, and televisions, provided that no more than ten (10) percent of the gross leasable floor area of the establishment may be dedicated to the sale of such devices.”

This definition separates these less intense services from fix-it shops and household appliance repairs, which tend to provide services for larger equipment such as refrigerators, washing machines, and dryers. Consumer electronics, radio, and television repair easily fit in a commerc...
