Recommendation
The Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing on July 1, 2013, and voted 6-1 to recommend approval with the condition that the proposed carports be constructed with brick columns. Vice-Chairman Dodson voted nay because he feels that there are enough apartments in Mansfield.
Description/History
The zoning change will be for 308 units of proposed apartments in three-story buildings with garages on the bottom. The developer will be Dolce Living that has developed all the three-story apartments adjacent to Mansfield National Golf Course. The company plans to construct the proposed project in two phrases. Phase 1 will include the amenity center, grill house, trails, dog park and a large swimming pool. Phase 2 will include a smaller amenity center, pool and trails. The developer also proposes ornamental fences along the golf course instead of masonry walls and non-masonry carport columns.
Last year, Council granted a similar Planned Development known as Dolce Living South consisting of 308 units on 17.19 acres to the north of the subject property. The proposed project will continue the architectural style of Dolce Living South, including the non-masonry columns for the carports.
The proposed PD is on property currently zoned for MF-2 and a PD for apartments that was granted to Jackson Property Company in 2007.
