Requested Action
Approve the Resolution calling the May 9, 2015 General election for the City of Mansfield.
Recommendation
City staff recommends the City Council order the General Election to be held on May 9, 2015 and Runoff election, if necessary, on June 13, 2015 by approve the resolution outlining the election procedures.
Description/History
Section 41.001 of the Texas Election Code specifies that the second Saturday in May shall be a "uniform election date." The City of Mansfield Chapter Section 4.01 "Nominations and Election" (a), Regular Elections states "The Regular City elections will be held annually on the first Saturday in May unless specifically prescribed by State Law. The Council shall order the election and designate the place for holding such an election.;' The Charter states {The Council Members shall be elected by place at large under the general provisions provided by Article IV of this Charter for three (3) year terms. The three(3) year terms shall be staggered so that two (2) and not more than three (3) members be elected each year."
Terms expire in May 2015 for the following Council places:
Place 3, Stephen Lindsey
Place 4 - Darryl Haynes
Place 5 - Cory Hoffman
The City Secretary's Office is distributing candidate packets upon request.
Justification
the procedure will be in accordance with the City Charter and State Law.
Funding Source
All election costs are budgeted in the City Council Account 01-8806-11-01.
