Requested Action
Approve the resolution to award the construction contract for the East Broad Street Paving, Drainage and Traffic Signal improvements to XIT Paving and Construction Inc.

Recommendation
The Engineering Staff recommends the approval of the construction contract award for the East Broad Street Paving, Drainage and Traffic Signal Improvements to XIT Paving and Construction Inc. and the authorization of funding.

Description/History
The East Broad Street improvements consist of constructing a 4 lane divided concrete curb and gutter roadway between Holland Road and Day Miar Road. This project will include constructing wider sidewalks (8’ wide) along the roadway to conform to the Parks Department’s Trails Master Plan. In addition this construction will include a traffic signal at the intersection of E. Broad Street and Day Miar Road.

A portion of this construction is adjacent to the City of Grand Prairie and will pick up a portion of drainage from Grand Prairie as well as improve access for their citizens, thus the City of Grand Prairie will financially participate on this project through an Interlocal agreement. The amount of participation from Grand Prairie which covers drainage, pavement and a portion of the traffic signal will be $150,000.

In addition this project was included in the Tarrant County Transportation Bond election. Tarrant County will contribute $1,737,576.00 toward this project.

The engineer’s probable opinion of cost for this project was $3,494,494.30. The project was bid on May 16, 2013 and there were seven bidders for the project. Bids ranged from a low bid of $3,187,545.31 to a high bid of $4,123...
