Title

Resolution - A Resolution Authorizing Funding in the Amount of $250,000 and Approval of a Contract with Freese & Nichols, Inc. for the Evaluation of the Walnut Creek Sewer Interceptor (Utility Bond Fund)

Requested Action

The authorization of funds in the amount of $250,000 and approval of a contract with Freese & Nichols, Inc. for the Evaluation of the Walnut Creek Sewer Interceptor.

Recommendation

The authorization of funds in the amount of $250,000 and approval of a contract with Freese & Nichols, Inc. for the Evaluation of the Walnut Creek Sewer Interceptor.

Description/History

Freese & Nichols, Inc. will evaluate the Walnut Creek Sewer Interceptor from North Main St. east along Walnut Creek to its most eastern limit.  The existing Walnut Creek Sewer Interceptor was constructed in two separate projects in 1992 and 1994 and ranges in size from 30" to 42".  This is one of the most important sewer lines in the City and its continued operation is critical.  This evaluation will utilize sonar and laser methodologies to produce a video and technical memorandum of results and recommendations for needed maintenance and improvements.

Justification

It is standard practice to evaluate sewer interceptors for corrosion, cracking, wall thickness and any solid deposits which reduce capacity.  The evaluation will also establish a remaining useful life for all segments and manholes and a schedule for future maintenance and replacement if necessary.  This evaluation is in the current Water and Wastewater Master Plan.

The Public Works Director will be in attendance at the meeting to answer Council’s questions regarding the proposed funding and
