Recommendation
City Staff recommends the City Council order the General Election to be held on May 12, 2012 and Runoff election on June 30, 2012 (if necessary) by approving the resolution outlining the election procedures.
El Personal de la ciudad recomienda que el consejo de la ciudad ordene que la elección general se lleve acabo el 12 de Mayo del 2012 y la segunda vuelta electoral el 30 de Junio del 2012 (si es necesario) mediante la aprobación de la resolución que describe los procedimientos electorales.
Description/History
Section 41.001 of the Texas Election Code specifies that the second Saturday in May shall be a “uniform election date”. The City of Mansfield Charter Section 4.01 “Nominations and Elections” (a), Regular Elections, states “The regular City elections will be held annually on the first Saturday in May unless specifically prescribed by State law. The Council shall order the election and designate the place for holding such an election.” The Charter states “The Council members shall be elected by place at large under the general provisions provided by Article IV of this Charter for three (3) year terms. The three (3) year terms shall be staggered so that two (2) and not more than three (3) members be elected each year.”
Terms expire in May 2011 for the following Council places:
Place 3 - Stephen Lindsey (completing unexpired term of Greg Kunasek)
Place 4 - Darryl Haynes
Place 5 - Cory Hoffman
