Title

Ordinance - Third and Final  Reading of an Ordinance Approving a Request to Abandon a Portion of Right-of-Way Along North Main Street at 715 North Main Street to Main Street Lofts, L.P.

Requested Action

To consider the subject right-of-way abandonment.

Recommendation

The Engineering Staff recommends the approval of the right-of-way abandonment along North Main Street.

Description/History

A development project of multi-family units called "Main Street Lofts" is currently being designed at the southwest corner of Newt Patterson Rd. and North Main St.  This project is a planned development just north of downtown and is therefore incorporating similar urban elements.  Buildings located along North Main Street will be located near the street along with on-street parking, sidewalks and street trees.

The current North Main Street right-of-way encompasses the Walnut Creek bridge embankment along the southern half of this property. This causes the existing right-of-way to transition further away from the street as it approaches the bridge.  The North Main Street right-of-way at this location was recently transferred from TxDOT to the City of Mansfield.

Justification

Abandoning this portion of right-of-way will allow this area to be filled and the proposed buildings located closer to the roadway.  This will create a design consistent with the northern half of the development and allow for a more unified streetscape along North Main Street.
