Requested Action
Ratify, confirm and approve that the City of Mansfield, Texas is authorized to enter into a contract with Ron Wright, Tarrant County Tax Assessor to collect property taxes on behalf of the City of Mansfield, Texas.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council of the City of Mansfield, Texas ratify, confirm and approve that the City Manager or his designee is authorized to enter into a contract with the County's Tax Collector, Ron Wright.
Description/History
The Tarrant County Tax Collector-Assessor has been collecting ad valorem taxes for the City of Mansfield since October 1, 1997. It was cost beneficial for the City to contract out this function to the County.
Justification
Staff has reviewed the cost model again and concluded that it is more beneficial to contract with the County Tax Office for collections than it is for the City of Mansfield, Texas to re-establish its own Tax Collection Office. The cost per parcel is $.90 cents per account. According to the latest collection report, the City has 34,390 accounts which means the anticipated cost for 2013 is $30,951.
