Approve a Resolution authorizing the allocation of funds from the hotel/motel tax funds and allowing for $39,501.40 from the City’s hotel/motel tax fund to the Convention and Visitors Bureau for the purpose of improving the Historic Downtown Farr Best Theater

Description/History
In February 2016, the Hotel Occupancy Subcommittee recommended to City Council to implement the formation of a City Arts Commission. City Council appointed local community leaders and arts advocates to the seven- person Board. The Arts Commission’s focus is to promote and advocate artistic, cultural and educational opportunities to enhance the quality of life in Mansfield for residents and visitors alike. In March of 2016 the Arts Commission leased the Farr Best Theater in Historic Downtown Mansfield to assist with the re-development of the Historic Downtown and to provide a place that will help promote the arts.
Justification
In an effort to make the Farr Best Theatre location operational and beneficial for the Arts Commission and public use, the subcommittee has requested the support of City Council for a funding supplement from the Hotel/Motel Tax Fund during FY2015-2016.
