Recommendation
The Engineering Staff recommends approval of the Resolution awarding a contract for the construction of Paving and Traffic Signal Improvements for Broad Street and Miller Road Intersection.
Description/History
The project is part of the Street Bond program with an estimated cost of $429,402.00.
The project was bid on June 20, 2013 and there were six bidders for the project. The low bidder was XIT Paving and Construction Inc. Bids ranged from a low bid of $344,142.05 to a high bid of $423,340.88
The contract time for this project is Sixty (60) working days or approximately 2.5 months. The contract also requires that the contractor start construction by July 15th and must complete eastbound through lanes and median nose improvements on Broad Street by August 27th to avoid liquidated damages. This requirement is to help alleviate school traffic interference. Bid tabulation is attached for Council’s review.
Staff is recommending award of this project and authorization of funding for the bid amount plus 5% for contingency for a total of $361,349.15.
Justification
XIT Paving and Construction Inc. has completed capital work in the City of Mansfield in the past. The Engineering Department feels that XIT Paving and Construction Inc. has the necessary staff and equipment to complete a job of this size and scope within the allowed contract time.
