Description/History
Texas Transportation Code Section 721.004 provides that all city owned vehicles and heavy equipment shall have printed on each side of the vehicle the name of the municipality, and the title of the department or office having custody of the vehicle, and the inscription must be in a color sufficiently different from the body of the vehicle so that the lettering is plainly legible at a distance of not less than 100 feet.
The Texas Transportation Code Section 721.005 provides that the governing body of the City of Mansfield may exempt from the requirements of Section 721.004 those vehicles used by the Police Department and the Tri-County Auto Burglary & Theft Prevention Task Force, to perform an official duty.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is the issuing agency of all exempt license plates for the City of Mansfield and has requested a resolution from this governing body to come into compliance with Section s721.004 and 721.005 of the Texas Transportation Code.
The attached resolution replaces Resolution No. 410 dated March 14 1988.
The attached resolution resolves that vehicles used by the City of Mansfield Police Department and the Tri-County Auto Burglary & Theft Prevention Task Force that perform official duties are exempt under the Texas Transportation Code, from Section 721.005 requirements.
