Description/History

The Walnut Creek Sanitary Sewer Interceptor is constructed of reinforced concrete pipe that was installed in 1992. In 2022, the Water Utilities Department partnered with the UTA Engineering Department to inspect seven thousand (7,000) feet of the Walnut Creek Sanitary Sewer Interceptor, using a multi-sensor inspection robot. They conducted and extensive inspection, which provided a detailed report to the City assessing the pipe condition and remaining service life. The project being considered consists of inspecting the remaining 23,000 feet of pipeline.

Justification

The inspection of the Walnut Creek Sanitary Sewer Interceptor is needed to evaluate the life expectancy of the aging pipeline. This is the main pipeline that carries the majority of the city’s wastewater to the Trinity River Authority. This project will work in conjunction with the Wastewater Master Plan to evaluate the remaining capacity left in the pipeline in relation to the growth and future needs of the City.
