Requested Action
The authorization of funds for an amount not to exceed $1,275,000 to prepare this project for public bidding. To direct Staff to execute the necessary contracts including Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. for Engineering Design Services and TxDOT for plan review, letting and construction oversight for the US Hwy 287 Ramps and Texas U-turn.
Recommendation
The Engineering Staff recommends the authorization of funding and the approval of contracts including Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. and TxDOT for the US 287 Ramps and Texas U-turn.
Description/History
On March 26, 2012 Council approved a resolution (RE-2787-12) to enter into a contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. for a traffic study and a preliminary schematic design to add and modify entrance and exit ramps along US Hwy 287 between Debbie Lane and Walnut Creek Drive. The contract also included the investigation and schematic design of adding a northbound to southbound Texas U-turn under the existing Debbie Lane/US Hwy 287 Bridge. This request for funding and contract execution will move the project from preliminary investigation and schematic phase to engineering design, bidding and construction administration. TxDOT will be reviewing and letting the project. The approval of funds includes $624,000 with Kimley-Horn and Associates for engineering design, survey (prepared by Brittain and Crawford), geotechnical investigation, environmental and $651,000 for TxDOT review, letting and construction oversight.
