Recommendation
The Engineering Staff recommends the approval of the amendment to the Schrickel, Rollins and Associates Inc. contract for design services for Callendar Road Improvements.
Description/History
Callendar Rd. has been identified in the Parks Master Plan as a proposed bike route. The recommended configuration for a bike lane on a four lane undivided road is to add width to the outside lanes. Construction plans for this road were nearly final when the Parks Master Plan was being reviewed and considerable re-design would be necessary to incorporate the bike lanes. This additional cost for design is $13,092.
Also, as the design and complexity of the project progressed an additional $10,510.00 in design fees is needed for additional traffic control, signage and striping not included in the original contract.
The Engineering Staff agrees that the additional scope of work is needed and recommends approving the contract amendment. The limits of this project extend from Hwy. 287 to Turner Warnell. The additional fee is not to exceed $23,602.00.
Justification
The Callendar Rd. bike route is a critical link in the bike trail system. The Park Board, in August, agreed to fund the bike route modifications to the construction plans as well as the additional construction cost. The remaining $10,510 will be funded from Street Bonds.
The Director of Public Works will be in attendance at the meeting to answer Council’s questions regarding the proposed project. A resolution is attached for Council’s consideration.
