Recommendation
The Engineering Staff recommends the approval of the Resolution amending the contract with Brittain & Crawford, LLC for the E. Broad Street Project from Holland Road to Day Miar Road.
Description/History
Council approved the original survey services contract with Brittain and Crawford, LLC on May 11, 2009 per Resolution #RE-2521-09 for an amount not to exceed $61,200. This contract included design and construction staking. This is the first amendment request to the original survey contract with Brittain & Crawford, LLC.
Justification
The original contract included fee for design survey and construction staking, however the fee for construction staking is difficult to estimate for boulevard projects due to lack of knowledge of the selected contractor's construction phasing. The phasing of the E. Broad Street requires dual staking (staking ½ of the street at a time), so the project is essence being staked twice. In addition the design of E. Broad Street contains major drainage structures that require additional staking. The change order amount to cover the additional construction staking is $20,000.
The Director of Public Works will be in attendance at the meeting to answer Council's questions regarding the proposed contract. A resolution is attached for Council's consideration.
