Requested Action

Consider a Resolution awarding a contract for the construction of Hogpen Branch Erosion Repair Streambank Stabilization Behind Houses on Brookfield Lane to RLM Earthco and authorizing funding for an amount not to exceed $530,000.

Recommendation

The Engineering Staff recommends approval of the Resolution.

Description/History

The project was bid on January 30, 2018 and there were 9 bidders for the project. The lowest qualified bidder was RLM Earthco.  Bids ranged from a low bid of $474,845.09 to a high bid of $806,314.00.

 

The contract time for this project is One Hundred (100) working days or approximately 5 months.  This project includes constructing approximately 250 linear feet of an engineered system of bank stabilization.

 

The requested funds are for a construction contract in the amount of $474,845.09, a 5% construction contingency, material testing, survey, and other miscellaneous services needed to complete the construction of the project, to be accomplished within a budget not to exceed $530,000.

Justification

RLM Earthco has many supporting references throughout the metroplex that strongly recommend their quality of workmanship. The Engineering Department feels that RLM Earthco has the necessary staff and equipment to complete a job of this size and scope within the allowed contract time.

 

The Director of Public Works will be in attendance at the meeting to answer Council’s questions regarding the proposed contract. A resolution is attached for Council’s consideration.

Funding Source

The funding source will be from the Drainage Utility Fund.
