Requested Action

Recommendation
Support the application to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department's Local Park Grant Program for the Development of Clayton W. Chandler Park, Phase II
Description/History
Phase II renovations to Chandler Park are scheduled to include community park amenities.  As outlined in the strategic business plan, the design of Chandler Park Phase II is scheduled for FY2013-2014 and construction in FY2014-2015.  Phase II design and construction will complete the park renovation.  The intent is to utilize the entire park for community park elements and to relocate the Colt baseball field simultaneously to the Sports Complex by expanding baseball field #6.

This grant provides 50% matching grant funds to municipalities, counties, MUDs and other local units of government with populations less than 500,000 to acquire and develop parkland or to renovate existing public recreation areas up to $400,000.
Justification
The 2009 Master Plan included the need for a community park in the northeast quadrant of the City. Clayton W. Chandler Park is located in this quadrant. Phase II renovations will continue to answer the need for a park in this portion of the City.

MPFDC unanimously approved this item at their regular meeting on August 21. Staff will be available to answer any questions.
