Title
Resolution - A Resolution Approving an Engineering Services Agreement for the "Bud Ervin Water Treatment Plant, Clearwell #4 and Miscellaneous Improvements" Design Project with Alan Plummer and Associates. These Services will be Funded by the Utility Operations Fund at a Cost not to Exceed Seven Hundred Forty Thousand Dollars and No Cents ($740,000.00)
Description/History
The final expansion of the Bud Ervin Water Treatment Plan has been divided into two separate projects: (1) the design and construction of clearwell #4 and (2) the design and construction of five membrane filtration racks, capable of treating an additional 15 million gallons of drinking water per day.
The services to be provided during the clearwell design and construction phase of this project include:
1.) Design and resident engineering services associated with the construction of a 3.5 million gallon rectangular cast-in-place clearwell.
2.) Design of an additional sodium hypochlorite generator, an additional 0.8-percent sodium hypochlorite storage facility, and the design of an additional salt storage / brine tank.
3.) Evaluation of the Lower Pressure Plane (LPP) Pump Station which includes pressure measurement and determination of whether or not surge protection is necessary.
4.) Design of one verticle turbine pump with necessary pipes and valve on the Lower Pressure Plane (LPP).
The design phase of this project is scheduled to last 12-months. Construction is not expected to begin until October 2015.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that City Council approve the Resolution for the attached "Engineering Services Agreement". These services have historically helped to control contractor costs and insure that constrution meets design.
