Recommendation

The Engineering Staff recommends the tabling this item to provide Council with additional information.

Description/History

The original Designated Truck/Commercial Delivery Routes Ordinance #1600 was approved by Council on November 26, 2006.  This ordinance designated certain roadway corridors (TxDOT roads) within the City as Truck Routes (truck traffic passing through the City) and other arterial roadways as Commercial Delivery Routes (truck traffic making a delivery within the delivery corridor).  The intent of this ordinance was to route truck traffic to major roadways that were constructed to handle the truck traffic loads and limit the truck traffic on those roadways that were designed with characteristics to handle local traffic patterns and loads.

The City has assumed jurisdiction, operation and maintenance from TxDOT of US Business Hwy 287 (Main Street) from FM 157 (Mouser Way) to FM 917. This section of Main Street currently experiences heavy truck traffic that passes through the downtown area.

At the October 26 City Council meeting this item was tabled at the request of Staff to provide time for Staff to investigate and provide additional information to Council.

Justification

Staff will brief Council on the progress made and provide some of the requested information.  Staff is requesting to table this item until receiving direction from Council.

The City Engineer will be in attendance at the meeting to answer Council’s questions.
