Requested Action
Approval by City Council for the Fire Chief and the Mansfield Fire Department to enter into an automatic aid agreement with the Grand Prairie Fire Department to give/receive emergency response as requested and as available.
Recommendation
Staff recommends approval of the resolution.
Description/History
The Fire Department currently has a written mutual aid agreement with Grand Prairie Fire Department. The automatic aid agreement would enhance safety and fire protection by allowing emergency response to specified areas in each city. This agreement would increase the protection of citizens and firefighters.
Justification
The agreement will allow the Mansfield Fire Department to aid and/or be aided automatically by the Grand Prairie Fire Department during structure fires and other emergency incidents. The agreement would provide for the closest available ambulance or fire apparatus to provide immediate response improving response time to the incident. An automatic aid incident may be cancelled upon arrival of the first engine, if able to mitigate the incident adequately. The automatic aid agreements is a factor that enhances our scoring during an ISO review/grading inspection.
The written contract has been reviewed by our City Attorney.
