Requested Action
Approve a resolution authorizing the City to enter an interlocal agreement with the North Central Texas Council of Governments for the city to retain a consultant to analyze current efforts for recycling in municipal facilities and make recommendations for improving the existing efforts and to create a sustainable products procurement system.
Recommendation
The Environmental Services Staff recommends the approval of the resolution so that the city can retain a consultant to analyze current efforts for recycling in municipal facilities and make recommendations for improving the existing efforts and to create a sustainable products procurement system.
Description/History
In 2007, the City received Solid Waste Grant funds in order to conduct a Comprehensive Recycling Study. The purpose was to develop a master plan type document for recycling services in the City. One action item listed in the study was to increase recycling in City facilities. The City has undertaken some steps in order to complete this action item, however, the effort has been very haphazard with no sense of how effective the program has been. The study will provide guidelines for recycling efforts and materials to help recruit existing staff for implementing further recycling efforts. Additionally, the consultant will evaluate current procurement processes and make recommendations for creating a sustainable products procurement system.
