Description/History
The City recently purchased 15.478 acres which included the original homestead of Ralph Man, on of the founding fathers of the City. Located within the existing walls of the current structure is a portion of the log house that was built for his family in 1860. The original room is covered with clapboard and not visible from the exterior. In 1977, a Texas Historical Marker was placed in the front yard recognizing the historical significance of this site. Council's reason for acquiring this property is to preserve this historical homestead for the future benefit of the citizens of Mansfield.
The Mansfield Park Facilities Development Corporation (MPFDC) has expressed an interest in acquiring a portion of the 15.478 acres in order to provide Public Park improvements, including a future linear trail along Walnut Creek. Attached are legal descriptions and drawings showing a division of the 15.478 acres into two tracts. Tract 1 is 4.89 acres and incorporates all of the historical structures, including a 100 foot buffer from the closest structure to the northern boundary line. Staff recommends that this tract remain as City property.
The remining portion or Tract 2, consisting of 10.588 acres is recommended by staff to be conveyed to the MPFDC for an amount of two hundred thousand dollars ($200,00). In addition, staff recommends that a 30 foot ingress/egress easement be granted across Tract 1 to provide access to Tr...
