The approval of a contract award for construction of Pond Branch Tributary Improvements to Nu-Way Construction LLC.
Recommendation
The Engineering Staff recommends the approval of the contract award to Nu-Way Construction, LLC. for construction of Pond Branch Tributary Improvements and the authorization of funding.
Description/History
This project is part of the Drainage and Utility Bond Program. The project bid on June 13, 2013 and there were three bidders for the project. Bids ranged from a low bid of $119,710.60 to a high bid of $174,675.00
Staff is recommending award of this project and authorization of funding for the bid amount plus 5% for contingency for a total of $125,696.13.
The low bidder was Nu-Way Construction LLC. The contract time for this project is Sixty (60) working days or approximately three months. Bid tabulation is attached.
Justification
Nu-Way Construction LLC has not completed capital work in the City of Mansfield in the past but has constructed public improvements on development. We have contacted multiple references submitted by Nu-Way Construction LLC. for both completed and current construction projects reflecting similar or greater scope than this project. Based on the references, the Engineering Department staff feels that Nu-Way Construction LLC has the skill and knowledge to successfully complete the project within the required contract time.
The Public Works Director will be in attendance at the meeting to answer Council’s questions regarding the proposed contract. A resolution is attached for Council’s consideration.
Funding Source
The funding source will be the Drainage Bond Program and Utility Bond Program.
