Description/History
Since 2001, The Texas Legislature has added a rider to the Departments Appropriation legislation which requires TxDOT to expand the concepts of the Houston District Green Ribbon Project. TxDOT is accomplishing the requirements by allocation funds to Districts with non-attainment or near non-attainment Counties to Plant and establish trees and plants on the state highway system to help mitigate the effects of air pollution.
In FY 2015 The Fort worth District was allocated $2.2 million for the program
The Green Ribbon funds must be used within FY 2015 or the funds are lost back to the district.
City staff (Parks and Transportation) submitted an application for landscaping on FM917 from Business 287 to the West City limits in July 2015 and The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Fort Worth District has approved the City of Mansfield for Green Ribbon Landscape funds in the 2015 fiscal year (September 2014 through August 2015). The City of Mansfield has been approved for a fixed amount of $390,000 for the landscaping and irrigation on State Highway FM917. Direct State costs will not be charged, but costs over $390,000 for bid items will be the City’s responsibility. The City will be required to enter into an advanced funding agreement as fund will be reimbursed
