Requested Action

Description/History

The Bud Erwin Water Treatment Plant (BEWTP) has used chlorine dioxide since 2003. Its primary role is to oxidize, and precipitate out of the water, iron and manganese metals. This is a critical protection process for the microfiltration membranes and their life expectancy. BEWTP is located next to a school, church, and is in a residential neighborhood. The three chemical process used today does not require chlorine gas be used. This makes a safer environment for all.

Justification

Chlorine Dioxide reduces taste and odor complaints, assists in the removal of organic and inorganic compounds, and increases the clarity of settled water. The end result is a more pleasant and safer supply of drinking water.
