Resolution - A Resolution Authorizing a Change Order to the Contract for South Holland Road Water Line (Eagle Dr. to Britton Rd.) with A&M Construction & Utilities, Inc., and Authorizing Additional Funds in the Amount of $4,892.90 (Utility Bond Fund)
Requested Action
Approval of the change order to the contract with A&M Construction & Utilities, Inc. and the authorization of additional funds.
Recommendation
The Engineering Staff recommends the approval of the change order to the contract with A&M Construction & Utilities, Inc. and the authorization of additional funds.
Description/History
The primary purpose of this project was to extend adequate water flow capacity to the Britton area for fire protection. Ultimately this will be a vital loop for water service south of the railroad east of SH 360. The project was bid on October 8, 2014, was awarded to A&M Construction & Utilites, Inc. and is nearing completion. The original funding was for the bid amount of $174,242.00 plus a 5% contingency for a total of $182,954.10.
During construction of this project, the City of Mansfield acquired the existing water system in the area owned by the Johnson County Special Utility District (JCSUD). To best utilize the JCSUD water system, a connection is needed between the City of Mansfield and JCSUD water systems in this area.
Justification
It has been determined that the best and least costly method for the above connection is for A&M Construction to make the connection as part of this water line project. This adds an 8" water line crossing Britton Rd , including an 8" valve, associated fittings and asphalt repair. This additional work brought the final project cost to $187,847.00 and exceeds the previously approved project amount by $4,892.90.
Funding Source
The funding source will be from the Utility Bond Fund.
