Authorization of Additional Funding for an Amount not to exceed $39,126.43 for changes in scope.
Recommendation
The Engineering Staff recommends the authorization of funding for additional design and surveying services for the changes in scope to the South Holland Rd Paving Improvements project.
Description/History
During the late stages of the design process it was decided that an 8’ wide park trail would be added to the project in lieu of standard sidewalk. The change in sidewalk caused several plan sheet changes and some design adjustments. During the early stages of construction it was decided that a sewer main should be installed now to serve a vacant parcel of land instead of having the developer remove sections of recently constructed roadway. Also, during the early stages of construction staff was informed by two gas pipeline companies that more clearance between the roadway and the top of their gas lines as well as a concrete cap over the lines would be required. To comply with this request a short segment of roadway had to be redesigned. The redesigns and additional scope also required additional surveying and staking by the surveyor.
Staff is recommending approval of additional funding in the amount of Thirty Nine Thousand One Hundred Twenty Six and 43/100 Dollars ($39,126.43) to the South Holland Rd Surveying and Design Contracts for additional scope and services provided by the engineer (Freese and Nichols) and surveyor (Brittain and Crawford).
Justification
This project is part of the Street Bond Plan.
The Public Works Director will be in attendance at the meeting to answer Council’s questions regarding the proposed funding and contracts.
