Title
Resolution - A Resolution Awarding the Bid for the Purchase of Granular Activated Carbon Filter Media for the Bud Ervin Water Treatment Plant in an Amount not to Exceed $668,587.92 (Utility Operations Fund)
Requested Action
Approval by City Council Resolution awarding a bid for the supply of "Granular Activated Carbon Filter Media" to Calgon Carbon Corporation.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that City Council award the bid for the supply of "Granular Activated Carbon Filter Media" to Calgon Carbon Corporation at a price of $668,587.92, (Six Hundred Sixty-Eight Thousand, Five Hundred Eighty-Seven dollars and ninty-two cents).
Description/History
On September 8th at 10:00 A.M. two bids were received, opened, and read aloud at City Hall. Two vendors were specifically invited to submit bids and the bid was advertised in the Fort Worth Star Telegram and the city web site. However, only two bids were received. After a review of the bids that were received, Calgon Carbon Corporation was found to have the lowest bid.
Justification
Granular Activated Carbon has been used to effectively reduced naturally occuring compounds which cause taste and odor problems in drinking water. Additionally, the GAC has proven to be an effective tool with which organic matterial, some of which may be associated with the formation of disinfection byproducts, can be reduced and/or removed. Granular Activated Carbon is an important piece of our overall water treatment scheme and I consider it a necessary component in producing high quality drinking water for the citizens of Mansfield. The current GAC has reached the end of its usefulness
