Title
Resolution - A Resolution Authorizing Additional Funding to the contract with Freese and Nichols, Inc., not to Exceed $59,444.00 for a Change in Scope of Design Services for the Aerial Sanitary Sewer Repairs Project (4 locations) (Utility Revenue Bond Fund)
Requested Action
The authorization of additional funds for an amount not to exceed $59,444.00 and approval of the contract amendment with Freese and Nichols, Inc.
Recommendation
The Engineering Staff recommends the authorization of additional funding and amendment to the contract with Freese and Nichols, Inc. for additional design services for the Aerial Sanitary Sewer Repairs (4 locations) project.
Description/History
The original contract with Freese and Nichols was approved on December 14, 2015 with Resolution 318-15, to repair four existing aerial sanitary sewer lines, install piers and improve embankments to prevent any further erosion damage. These four lines are located near Danbury Dr., Carlin Dr., Holley Creek Lane and North Main Street in Walnut Creek and Hogpen Branch. These aerial sewer crossings range from 6 to 36 inch sanitary sewer lines. The requested funds were for design, survey and other miscellaneous services to prepare this project for construction, to be accomplished within a budget of $180,000.

After additional design investigation at the Danbury crossing, we discovered an 8in sewer line in the bank of the channel that had been exposed by erosion due to large storms occurring after design had begun. This 8in sewer line is just upstream of the 36in sewer we are currently designing. This location will require an additional 250lf of bank stabilization which will tie into the existing 36in sewer repair design. The additional design work will be accomplished for $59,444.00.
Justification
This additional design work is to repair an existing 8in sanitary sewer line and reinforce the creek bank to prevent further erosion damage.
