Description/History
FY 2012 Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program is administered by the U.S. Department of Justice/Office of Justice Programs.  On June 16, 1998 the Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) Grant Act of 1998 was signed into law.  The purpose of this Act is to save the lives of law enforcement officers with body armor (vests).  The program is designed to reimburse up to 50% of the cost of National Institute of Justice (NIJ) approved body armor (vests).  The 50% reimbursement applies to bulletproof vests purchased on or after April 1st, 2012 through August 31, 2014.

Justification
The Police Department will replace approximately $13,100.00 (approximately 14 vests) in body armor (vests) in FY 2012-2013.  The vests targeted for replacement will reach the manufacturers end of service life during the FY 2012-2013 budget year.  The City would be eligible to receive approximately $6,550.00 in federal grant money if our application is approved.

Funding Source
U.S. Department of Justice will allocate the funds.  (No local match required by the City)
