The Engineering Staff recommends the approval of the change order to the contract with McClendon Construction, Inc.
Description/History
The project was awarded by Resolution 2659-10 to McClendon Construction, Inc., for an amount not to exceed $704,687.34. The award did include a 5% contingency for this project and was surpassed by an amount of 4.9%. Of the 4.9% above the original resolution amount, landscape and irrigation is $16,411.14 and paving and utility construction is $20,964.30.
The contract award amount was exceeded due to additional work beyond the scope of the contract. Due to the age of this section of town, some of the utilities were not well documented and or incorrectly marked leading to some assumptions being made prior to construction. Below is the list of items adding to the amount requested.
Landscaping upgrades and unforeseen items included an additional irrigation service, upgrade of the irrigation electronic system, tree relocation and tree replacements in additional expense.
Paving and Utility changes and unforeseen items include changes to trench backfill permits across Main Street in the field changes by a TxDot representative. Additional sewer lines and sewer services not shown on original plans were also added. Retaining walls were added to three residents’ property to improve their front yard slope. Additional pavement was needed due to sewer extensions and additional storm drain discovered during construction plus some minor miscellaneous items.
Justification
The additional work was beyond the scope of the contract.
