Description/History
The 2009 Parks, Recreation, Trails and Open Spaces Master Plan identified a plan to build the Walnut Creek Linear Park and trail system East to Joe Pool Lake recreation area as a high priority. The Mansfield Park Facilities Development Corporation (MPFDC) and the City's Drainage Fund will fund the purchase of this property including the home. By purchasing the entire property, future flooding of the residence will be mitigated and will aid the conveyance and storage of flood water during weather events. The area will provide a trail connection and more neighborhood park amenities.  Once the purchase is approved and closed, the current property owner will vacate the property and at that time the MPFDC and City will have full access to the property.  The intent will be to demolish the home and leave the lot as open space as a part of the Walnut Creek linear trail system. The MPFDC unanimously approved this purchase at their December 18, 2014, meeting.
Justification
This property will expand linear park land, combine several previously purchased flood tracts and will allow for the addition of more neighborhood park amenities where none have existed before.  The MPFDC will provide the Walnut Creek Linear Park trail through the property. Possible other improvements to this property may include a pedestrian trail head, benches, signage, drinking fountains and shade structures.
