Description/History
Gertie Barrett Park will be a new neighborhood park in the northwest quadrant of Mansfield, an area identified in the 2020 Parks and Recreation Master Plan as moderate to highest need of park space and amenities. The property, located off Gertie Barrett Road near Business 287/Main Street and Garretson Lane, was purchased in 2009 to serve as future parkland and was the highest priority project in this quadrant. Based on feedback from community engagement during the master plan, the park design will include a playground, parking lot, splash pad, walking trail and open natural spaces. On March 21, 2022, the City Council awarded a Guaranteed Maximum Price contract in the amount of $3,600,140.96 to the Construction Manager-At-Risk, The Fain Group Inc., for construction of Gertie Barrett Park and McClendon Park West improvements.

The proposed agreement will provide additional ingress and egress to Gertie Barrett Park from the private drive along Garretson Lane. The improvements include milling, compacting, and reinstalling existing asphalt to expand it from an 11 foot width to the 21 foot width. Additionally, for the portion of Garretson Lane extending approximately 300 feet beyond the western property line of the park up to the residential gate for the private property, the City shall improve the access drive to accommodate a drive width of 11 feet. Additionally, the City shall install two drainage pipes and any necessary associated infrastructure to promote proper drainage throughout the area, an automatic sliding gate across the access drive and a split rail fence along the southern property line of the park.
