Description/History
The City of Mansfield is comprised of three counties: Tarrant County, Johnson County, and Ellis County. In an effort to continue to provide valued transportation means to the citizens and businesses of this area, a collaborative team between local government, state officials, businesses, and community leaders was formed to pursue transportation projects. Senator Harris was instrumental in laying the groundwork for just this type of project in the extension of State Highway 360 (SH360) from IH- 20 to US 287.
Senator Chris Harris has served the North Texas people as a thoughtful and insightful state legislator in the Texas House of Representatives from 1985 to 1991 and the Texas Senate from 1991 to 2013. Senator Harris also served the North Texas people as an accomplished attorney focusing on family and business law.
Justification
The cities of Arlington, Grand Prairie, Kennedale, and the membership of SETT (Southeast Tarrant Transportation Partnership) unanimously endorsed the renaming of State Highway 360 South Extension to Senator Chris Harris Memorial Highway.
The City of Mansfield and the State of Texas lost a valuable citizen and leader in 2015, with the passing of Chris Harris. The renaming of this highway will honor his legacy of distinguished service and significant accomplishments.
