Title

Resolution - A Resolution Authorizing a Change Order to the Contract with McClendon Construction, Inc. for Antler Dr. Paving, Drainage and Sewer Improvements for an Amount Not to Exceed $108,784.00 (MEDC Fund)

Requested Action

Consider the Resolution authorizing a change order to the contract with McClendon Construction Co., Inc. for Antler Dr. Paving, Drainage and Sewer Improvements.

Recommendation

The Engineering Staff recommends approval of the Resolution.

Description/History

The project was bid on September 23, 2016 and awarded on October 24 to McClendon Construction Co., Inc in the amount of $1,510,014.19.  The limits for the Antler Drive project are from the end of the existing concrete pavement to FM Hwy 917 including significant drainage structures.  Also included is a 12" off-site sewer main that serves a large quadrant of the southwest industrial area and the removal of an existing lift station that has become a maintenance burden.

This change order will eliminate an open drainage channel design along the east side of the proposed roadway and allow it to be placed in an underground drainage system.  The addition has been a request of the property owner adjacent to Antler.  Initially this was not part of the scope of the project but once bids were received it was determined that the underground system could be constructed within the current funding approved by the MEDC board.

Justification

The underground drainage will leave more developable acreage on the adjacent tract, provide better access off of Antler Dr., and will be more aesthetically pleasing than an open channel.

The Director of Public Works will be in attendance at the meeting to answer Council’s questions regarding the proposed contracts.  A resolution is attached for Council’s consideration.

Funding Source

The funding source will be from the MEDC fund.
