Requested Action
The approval of a contract award for construction of the FY 2016 Community Development Block Grant Project for Tarrant Street Paving, Drainage and Utility improvements to McClendon Construction.
Recommendation
The Engineering Staff recommends the approval of the contract award in the amount of Five Hundred Six Thousand Eight Hundred Twenty Eight and 96/100 Dollars ($506,828.96) to McClendon Construction for the construction of the FY 2016 Community Development Block Grant Project for Tarrant Street Paving and Utility improvements.
Description/History
The project was bid at the Tarrant County offices on March 29, 2017 and there were four bidders for the project. Bids ranged from a low bid of $482,694.25 to a high bid of $749,591.00. The low bidder was McClendon Construction. The contract time for this project is One Hundred Fifty (150) calendar days or approximately 6 months. Exhibit “A” shows the limits of the proposed Tarrant Street Paving and Utility improvements. Bid results are attached as Exhibit “B”.
Staff is recommending award of this project and authorization of funding for the bid amount plus 5% for contingency for a total of $506,828.96.
Justification
McClendon Construction has successfully completed capital improvement work in the City of Mansfield in the past. The Engineering Department feels that McClendon Construction has the necessary staff and equipment to successfully complete the project within the required contract time.
The Director of Public Works will be in attendance at the meeting to answer Council’s questions regarding the proposed contract. A resolution is attached for Council’s consideration.
Funding Source
The funding will be from the 2016 Community Development Block Grant with excess costs from the Street Bond and the Utility Revenue Bond Funds.
