Requested Action

Consider the authorization of funding and approval of contracts.

Recommendation

The authorization of funding in an amount not to exceed $375,000.00 and approval of contracts, including design services with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., to prepare South Main St. (Broad St. to Hunt St.) for construction.

Description/History

South Main Street will be reconstructed from Broad Street south to Hunt Street.  The street will be constructed as a 4-lane asphalt roadway with concrete back-in parking on both sides of the street.  This project also includes significant pedestrian-friendly landscape, hardscape and lighting improvements.  A conceptual design plan has been previously approved by Council.  Meetings have also been held to share the conceptual design with adjacent property owners and business owners.

 

The requested funds are for design services with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. in the amount of $293,500.00, an additional 5% design fee for potential design scope changes, survey, easement acquisition, subsurface investigation, and other miscellaneous services, all to be accomplished within a budget of $375,000.00.

Justification

This project is included in the Street Bond Fund Capital Plan.  A conceptual design plan has previously been approved by Council.

 

The Director of Public Works will be in attendance at the meeting to answer Council’s questions regarding the proposed funding and contracts.
