Title

Resolution - A Proposed Resolution Awarding a One Year Renewable Contract to the Lowest and Best Bid for the Supply of Liquid Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda), for an Amount not to Exceed $531.00 / Dry Ton (Utility Fund FY-2017, FY-2018 Operating Budget 025-8105-84-01)

Requested Action

Resolution authorizing a one year renewable option contract for the supply of Liquid Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda).

Recommendation

City staff recommends approval of a resolution awarding the bid to the lowest and best bidder, Perta Chemical, for the amount of $531.00 / dry ton.

Description/History

The invitation to bid was advertised in the Fort Worth Star Telegram, posted on the City of Mansfield website, and bid packets were e-mailed to known suppliers and companies that requested them.

Justification

Sodium Hydroxide is used to adjust the pH of the drinking water prior to distribution to the public. Adjusting the pH of the water allows water treatment plant personnel to distribute water that is both non-corrosive and stable. The protection of public health and the drinking water system in general depend on these factors.

Funding Source

Utility Fund FY-2017, FY-2018 Operating Budget 025-8105-84-01.
