Requested Action
City Council action approving the resolution canvassing the returns of the runoff election is requested.
Recommendation
Staff recommends approval of the resolution.
Description/History
A runoff election was held on June 10, 2017 for the purpose of electing Council Member, Place 6 and Council Member, Place 7. Unoffical results were provided after the polls closed; however, election results can not be canvassed until provisional and overseas ballots are evaluated and counted. Final election results are expected to be received Monday, June 19th. The final tabulation will be presented at the meeting. Pursuant to the City Charter, the Oath of Office will be administered to newly elected Council Members at the next regular meeting, which is scheduled for Monday, June 26th.
Justification
Pursuant to Sections 67.002 and 67.003 of the Election Code, the City Council must canvass the election returns to later than June 21, 2017.
