Title

Resolution- A Resolution Approving an Amendment to the Contract for Design Services with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., for East Broad St. (US 287 to Cannon Dr.) for an Amount not to Exceed $37,500.00 (MEDC Fund)

Requested Action

Consider a Resolution approving an amendment to the contract for design services with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., for East Broad St. (US 287 to Cannon Dr.) for an amount not to exceed $37,500.00.

Recommendation

The Engineering Staff recommends approval of the Resolution.

Description/History

The original contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. was approved on July 25, 2016 with Resolution 3268-16, to provide design and survey for East Broad St. (US 287 to Cannon Dr.) in the amount of $424,600.00.

This amendment will provide for the following additional design items. Temporary signalization will be designed and installed at Mitchell Rd. to help traffic flow during construction.  Permanent traffic signalization will be designed now and will be installed when HEB shopping center development takes place.  The configuration of turn lanes and landscaping necessitated relocation of the existing street lights. A deceleration lane and driveway along the US 287 Frontage Road into the Shops at Broad development will also be designed. The deceleration lane and driveway cost will be accounted for in the city funding for Shops at Broad.

Justification

This additional amount is needed to complete the design of East Broad Street.  These items were needed due to unforeseen design issues and to accommodate adjacent future commercial development.

The Director of Public Works will be in attendance at the meeting to answer Council’s questions regarding the proposed funding and contracts.
