Requested Action

Consider the Resolution awarding a contract for the construction of South Main St. 12” & 8” Water Line Improvements to A&M Construction and Utilities, Inc., for construction and authorizing funding for an amount not to exceed $1,162,131.08.

Recommendation

The Engineering Staff recommends approval of the Resolution.

Description/History

The project was bid on May 16, 2018 and there were seventeen bidders for the project. The lowest qualified bidder was A&M Construction and Utilities, Inc.  Bids ranged from a low bid of $1,030,267.20 to a high bid of $1,812,671.90.

Justification

A&M Construction and Utilities, Inc. has completed capital work for the City of Mansfield in the past. The Engineering Department feels that A&M Construction and Utilities, Inc. has the necessary staff and equipment to complete a job of this size and scope within the allowed contract time.

The Director of Public Works will be in attendance at the meeting to answer Council’s questions regarding the proposed contract and funding. A resolution is attached for Council’s consideration.

Funding Source

The funding source will be from the Utility Bond Fund.
